Course Description: Students will dig deeper into the science of agriculture concentrating specifically on North Carolina’s roots. We will explore the science behind soil, seeds, plants and animals. We will focus on using our five senses to enrich each and every topic we cover. Students will have the opportunity to grind wheat into flour, make butter, taste sugar cane/sorghum, grow their own sweet potato slips and so much more!

Teacher Bio: This class is taught by Jennifer Farlow.   Jennifer earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from  UNC-CH and Masters in Elementary Education from UNCG. She taught in the public and private sector and currently homeschools their 9th and 12th grade children while managing her summer farm camp. She also mentors at the EMMA homeschool co-op in Greensboro.

Course Description: “Who was Virginia Dare? How many state parks are in NC? What is our state drink? Why is NC called “The Tarheel State? Who invented Pepsi?” These are just a few of the questions we will answer throughout our yearlong study of North Carolina.  Over the course of the year students will compile a North Carolina notebook filled with history, fun facts, legends, illustrations and more.

Course Name: Cursive Handwriting & Vocabulary for Grades 3-5
Grade Range: 3rd-5th

Course Description: Want to broaden your child’s active vocabulary? This class, based on a spelling reader from 1909, will introduce students to new words through cursive handwriting, dictionary work and engaging games and hands-on activities. *This class will be split into two parts each week. The first half of our class will be used for direct cursive handwriting instruction followed by vocabulary work the last half.
