Course Name: Making Music Fun for Grades K-2 

Grade Range: K-2 and please note that only students entering kindergarden or higher are eligible for this class.  We move at a K-2 pace.

Course Description: Students will learn the beginning principles of music (beat, rhythm, note recognition) in a fun group atmosphere that will include movement, games, singing, playing desk-bells, videos, worksheets, quizzes and instrument family activities along side Mr. Scott and some guest musicians.

Course Prerequisites: Parent/Teacher Understanding: *All Parents are required to help their children setup/breakdown musical instruments (desk-bells) and all supplies (music folder/pencils etc) before and after this class-time.  *Mr. Scott and assistants will be available to help all members of the class as well, but will also be actively setting up all music stations used for full daily learning impact.  (e.g. 1. TV station, 2. Drum station, 3. Percussion Tube Station, 4. Piano station.)  Feel free to ask questions about set-up as we progress each week.

Curriculum used by Instructor: Prodigies for the YOUNG MUSICIAN-Rob Young/Making Music Fun-Scott Johnson *Note: Mr. Scott uses prodigiesmusic.com as a resource account for K-5, as well as writes his on course materials that will all be handed out in class as needed.

1. In class set-up of the Free desk-bells app on parents’ preferred mobile device of choice.

*not-required; but highly perferred for best results: 2. Your child’s on set of desk-bells (CNDBD) to enhance the class experience.  Can be bought from Mr. Scott or amazon.com then sold to future up-coming grades when finished.

Homework Requirements: Practice the song of the week with your family.  Regularly login to the website for excelled musical growth with videos and information from class!

Teacher Bio: Scott Johnson is owner at SetApart Music in High Point.  He holds a degree in Sacred Music Education from Gardner-Webb University.  He is known locally for his work with elementary guitar/ukulele lessons, Modern Worship Bands, All-County Band auditions, and Song-Writing Workshops.  For the past 10 years he has been teaching and performing on a variety of instruments ranging from piano and guitar to ukulele and school instruments. Course Name: Beginner Guitar Class for Grades 6-12 
Grade Range: 6-12

Course Description:  Students will learn how to play and apply guitar techniques such as reading music/tablature, strumming varies rhythmic patterns, note and chord recognition, pick-patterns and melodies along the fretboard as they practice fun songs inside the course material as well as songs outside the book that are focused and catered to their individual and group interest. (e.g. Worship, Rock,Jazz, Oldies etc.)
Class time will consist of blocked time for large group instruction of weekly goals, some one-to one time with Mr. Scott for individual attention and growth, as well as paired success with class-mates in small groups for support.

Course Description: Students will learn to play fun songs and apply violin and viola techniques such as reading music, how to hold instruments, playing and counting different rhythms, plucking notes, applying the bow to the strings, and musical terms unique to strings while listening to assigned audio/visual practice tracks! Students will be able to perform at the end of the semester inside and outside their course books. Class time will consist of blocked time for large group instruction of weekly goals, some one-to one time with Ms. Williams for individual attention and growth, as well as paired success with classmates in small groups for support.
Course Prerequisites: None required
Curriculum used by Instructor: EE for Strings, The Violin or Viola Fun Book for Young Students by Larry Newman, Weekly Print-Out and Worksheets.

Teacher Bio:  Cydney Williams is an American musician who started playing the viola when she was eleven years old. Throughout the years, Cydney performed in many settings around the community such as school orchestras, chamber ensembles, competitions, district orchestras, music workshops, summer music camps, clinics, recitals, festivals, and churches. She did her student teaching in Cumberland Co. and after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a B. A. in Music in 2019, Cydney was accepted into the graduate program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.  She received her Master’s Degree in Viola Performance in the Spring of 2022.
Most recently, Cydney is now a part of the teaching team at SetApart Music Academy offering instruction in Violin/Viola privately and in the Orchestra Introductory Class setting. She is excited to be starting her first year as a part of Friendly Educators along side Mr. Scott!
